With the arrival of October this week, stories of unexplained happenings and eerie sightings in Carroll County come to life through tours in Westminster that provide the curious something to ponder.

"We usually have a packed tour," said Pat Hahn, a library associate at the Carroll County Public Library's Westminster branch, who has been leading the popular ghost tours for 12 years.

"This is our 15th or 16th year," Hahn said, of the walking tours. "We have 22 people to a group, so everybody can hear us when walking."

After a 15-minute presentation at the library, Hahn leads a group down Westminster's Main Street, telling stories at Cockey's Tavern, Ascension Church, the Old Court House and several other locations.

"The stories are taken from legends. The people existed," Hahn said. "Things have been embellished over time. You learn a lot of historical information."

Every year, Hahn learns new stories from her tour participants while walking, she said.

"You can genuinely see it in their faces that something happened," Hahn said.

She admitted that she has never seen a ghost.

"I've always wanted to," she said.

Westminster Library's popular Ghost Tours are free and are scheduled throughout the month of October at Westminster Library, 50 E. Main St, Westminster.
