A Westminster man died on Friday, Nov. 30, after he was struck while walking alongside Chapel Road in the Westminster area, according to the Carroll County Sheriff's Office.
The Sheriff's Office said that at about 3:25 p.m., deputies responded to reports of a vehicle collision involving a pedestrian on the 900 block of Chapel Road, which is west of Route 27 at Kate Wagner Road.
The pedestrian, identified as a 45-year-old Westminster man, was treated at the scene by paramedics from the Westminster Volunteer Fire Company, and transported by ambulance to the Carroll Hospital Center, where he was pronounced dead.
According to the Sheriff’s Office, the man had apparently been walking westbound along the edge of the roadway when he was struck from behind by a 2002 Nisan sedan operated by a 21-year-old Taneytown man, who was also traveling westbound.
The Sheriff’s Office Traffic Collision Reconstruction team is conducting an investigation, which the office said could take several weeks. Alcohol is not considered a factor, the office reported.
The identity of the man struck has been withheld pending notification of his family; the identity of the driver has also not been released.
The Sheriff's Office is asking that anyone with information about this incident, or who may have witnessed the collision, contact Cpl. Glenn Day of the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office at 410-386-2900, or firstname.lastname@example.org.Copyright © 2015, The Baltimore Sun
