The work of Baltimore artist Cara Ober is on display through Nov. 15 in McDaniel College's Rice Gallery in Peterson Hall, at 2 College Hill, Westminster.
The solo exhibition features drawing, painting and printmaking layered into mixed media works that reinterpret sentimental imagery.
Ober combines imagery from children's schoolbooks, home décor, historical texts and greeting cards to explore notions of authenticity, appropriation, personal identity and vocabulary.
"I employ a collage aesthetic in all my work, although my materials include paint on canvas, collage of paper, gold leaf and a variety of drawing media," she said in a news release.
Ober, from Westminster, was the recipient of a 2006 Maryland Individual Artist Grant for painting, was awarded the Warhol Grant for Emerging Curators in 2006 and a Best in Show in the Juried Painting Exhibit at the Torpedo Factory, in Alexandria, Va., in 2006.
Gallery hours are noon to 4 p.m. Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday; noon to 8 p.m. Thursday; and noon to 5 p.m. Saturday.
