The Arc of Carroll County is hoping a county business, civic organization, or individual will be able to play the role of Santa Claus for its clients this year.

From 2002 through 2011, a local company was able to fund a 'Secret Santa' program for Arc clients, but that group was unable to continue in 2012, according to Arc Executive Director Donald Rowe.

The Arc tried to host the program itself last year, but due to limited resources, Rowe said it just "wasn't quite the same."

The Arc, is a nonprofit that provides support services to about 700 people with developmental disabilities in Carroll, is hopeful another county business or individuals can step in to help revive the Secret Santa program this year.

The nonprofit hosts two Christmas parties a year, one for its clients receiving day supports and the other for people receiving community living supports. There are 70 clients who attend the residential holiday party and 100 who attend the day program party.

The hope is that enough money is raised that each client can receive a personal holiday gift.

To achieve that goal, the Arc is looking to raise $3,400, or about $20 per person.

Many of the items previously on Christmas lists, include a pack of gum, socks, batteries, or anything Ravens related.

"It really makes the holiday time really nice for our folks," Rowe said.

Holiday parties this year are scheduled for Dec. 19-20.

Donations will be collected up until Dec. 9 and can be made in person at the Arc offices at 180 Kriders Church Road in Westminster or through http://www.arccarroll.com.
