The Carroll County Sheriff's Office is reminding local businesses to be alert for counterfeit currency after an incident at a Westminster gas station early Sunday morning.
The Sheriff's Office reported that a counterfeit $20 bill was passed as currency at the gas station, according to a press release.
Cpl. Jonathan Light said reports of counterfeit currency in the county are "very infrequent," but the Sheriff's Office wanted to remind businesses to be vigilant in their inspection of money.
The investigation has been forwarded to the United States Secret Service for continued investigation. Anyone with information regarding the case is asked to contact the Carroll County Sheriff's Office at 410-386-2900.
