The Arc of Carroll County is now accepting applications for its Timothy J. Atkinson Memorial Scholarship.
The scholarship, established in 2008 to honor the former executive director of the Arc, awards $1,000 to a student who intends to enter a field that will assist or advocate for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
It is the only scholarship offered by the Arc.
To be eligible, a student must be a Carroll County resident and must be a graduating high school senior accepted for admission or a current college student attending as a full-time student at an accredited college or university in pursuit of a related degree.
Applicants are required to complete an application form and provide a high school transcript, a letter of recommendation from a school administrator, teacher, or volunteer coordinator, an essay explaining why they would like to enter the field, and a description of any volunteer or community services work completed involving service to the developmentally disabled. Finalists may be asked for an interview.
Applications are due by April 1.
Application forms are available at www.arccarroll.com or by calling 410-848-4124 ext. 146.Copyright © 2015, The Baltimore Sun
