A 66-year-old man was fatally struck by a car while crossing a road in Westminster late Wednesday, Maryland State Police said.
The man, identified as Harry Wesley Dowden Jr., had been struck near the intersection of MD Route 140 and MD Route 27 shortly before 10 p.m. by a Pontiac driven by a woman who had a child passenger.
Troopers said Dowden was not crossing in a crosswalk and was wearing dark clothing. The driver remained at the scene and troopers said speed and alcohol are not believed to be factors.
Dowden was pronounced dead at the scene, and the road was closed for about two hours. Any witnesses are encouraged to contact Trooper First Class James Lantz at the Westminster State Police barrack.
