For the second year in a row, Carroll County commissioners Doug Howard and Haven Shoemaker will host five community meetings over the next month to discuss issues facing the county before commissioners begin deliberations on the fiscal year 2015 budget.
Howard and Shoemaker are expected to address education topics at upcoming meetings, including operating budgets, the future of Charles Carroll Elementary School, and the Common Core State Standards. They will also address a multi-year tax rate strategy, economic development, and the county budget for fiscal year 2015, according to a county news release.
The first meeting will be Tuesday at Charles Carroll Elementary School in Westminster from 7 to 8:30 p.m.
Howard and Shoemaker will be presenting at each meeting, but they are also willing to accommodate the commissioner representing the district in which the meeting will be held with some time to make a brief presentation, according to a county news release.
The meeting schedule is as follows:
•Tuesday, Jan. 7 at Charles Carroll Elementary School, 3719 Littlestown Pike, Westminster
•Tuesday, Jan 14 at Liberty High School, 5855 Bartholow Road, Eldersburg
•Monday, Jan. 27 at North Carroll High School, 1400 Panther Drive, Hampstead
•Tuesday, Jan. 28 at Mt. Airy Middle School, 102 Watersville Road, Mt. Airy
•Monday, Feb. 3 at East Middle School, 121 Longwell Avenue, Westminster
