Backhoe allegedly stolen from cemetery

The Westminster Police Department is investigating a theft from a local cemetery.

A backhoe was reported stolen from Meadow Branch Cemetery. Lt. Thomas Kowalczyk confirmed that a Westminster officer took a report on the missing backhoe.

The backhoe was last seen Saturday around 11:30 a.m. and was discovered missing around 8:20 a.m. Tuesday, Kowalczyk said.

The orange Kubota L39 backhoe was sitting on a black trailer with Maryland license plate 841130G1, he said.

Kowalczyk said Westminster has handled reports of equipment stolen from construction sites, but it is rare to see it from a cemetery.

Anyone with more information is asked to call 410-848-4646 and ask for Officer Tim Rife.
