One dead in Route 30 accident in Manchester

Maryland State Police have confirmed that one person died in a three-vehicle accident Thursday afternoon on Route 30 in the area of Mt. Ventus Road in Manchester.

According to police, a silver passenger car traveling southbound on Route 30 crossed the double yellow center lines, striking a tractor tailer traveling northbound head on.

Police said the tractor trailer subsequently entered the southbound lane where it struck a white box truck.

After the collision, the white box truck left the roadway, striking a utility pole, according to police.

The front seat passenger of the silver car was pronounced dead on the scene, but police have not yet released their identity.

No other individuals involved in the collision sustained injury, according to police.

Police said the tractor trailer was hauling feed and the box truck was hauling fish.

Route 30 has been closed in both directions since the accident and is expected to be closed for an additional two hours for utility pole replacement, according to Sgt. Dave Keller.
