Police investigating thefts from vehicles in Hampstead

The Carroll County Sheriff's Office is investigating a series of thefts from vehicles in Hampstead that occurred between Friday evening and early Saturday morning.

The Sheriff's Office said in a news release that items were taken from five vehicles in the area of Hi View Drive and Willow View Court.

Deputies responded to Hi View Drive Saturday for the report of a theft from a vehicle. During the course of the investigation, four additional repors were filed, according to the release.

More than $1,600 worth of property, including money, purses, handheld gaming systems, and a firearm, were taken from the vehicles, police said.

Some of the items were taken from unlocked vehicles, while others were broken into, according to police.

The Sheriff's Office reminds residents to always secure all items out of sigh regardless of where the vehicle is parked and that vehicles should always be locked. If possible, valuable items should always be brought inside instead of being left in a vehicle.

The Sheriff's Office investigation is ongoing.
