The first in a series of community charrettes to gather input on the Carroll County Public Schools' Facilities Utilization Study will be held today, Tuesday, Oct. 15, beginning at 7 p.m. at North Carroll High School, Panther Drive, Hampstead.

The study stems from a discussion last year in which the Board of County Commissioners requested a look at how school facilities are being used, and if there might be any opportunities to close, combine or otherwise restructure school programs.

The North Carroll meeting is the first of four charrettes planned to spark discussion among school officials and residents. Additional charrettes are scheduled as follows:

Wednesday, Oct. 16, at Francis Scott Key High School, 3825 Bark Hill Rd., Union Bridge, beginning at 5 p.m., with a town meeting at 7 p.m.

Tuesday, Oct. 22, Century High School, 355 Ronsdale Road, Sykesville, beginning at 7 p.m.

Wednesday, Oct. 23, Westminster High School, 1225 Washington Road, Westminster, beginnign at 7 p.m.

MGT of America, Inc. will conduct the charrette. School officials said each charrette will begin with a presentation of goals and the types of ideas being considered. The audience will use interactive software to vote on issues concerning the study, then there will be smaller sessions that will allow discussion as a result of the information gained from the initial presentation.
