Mechanic dies after jack dislodges, drops vehicle on him

An Anne Arundel County man died Friday after becoming trapped beneath a vehicle he was repairing at Car Finders of Maryland in Eldersburg.

Police were sent to Car Finders at approximately 4:15 p.m. Friday and discovered mechanic Robert Edward Wolf, 65, of Severn, pinned under a vehicle, according to a news release from the Maryland State Police Westminster Barrack.

Wolf had been working beneath the vehicle when the jack stand used for support became dislodged on the passenger's side and the vehicle fell on top of him, causing significant injuries, according to State Police.

Emergency medical services personnel responded, but Wolf was pronounced dead at the scene at approximately 4:22 p.m., according to the State Police release.

Police found no evidence of foul play and the incident appeared the be an accidental industrial workplace accident, according to the release.

Wolf's body was transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Baltimore for an autopsy, according to the release.

The investigation is continuing, with assistance from the Maryland Occupational Safety and Health Administration.
