Springdale Prep recognized for partnership with Carroll County Rec & Parks

Carroll County Times

Springdale Preparatory School in New Windsor has officially partnered with Carroll County Department of Recreation and Parks by signing a joint-use agreement for the former New Windsor Middle School last week.

The West Carroll Recreation Council relies heavily on use of the now-closed New Windsor Middle gymnasium and athletic fields to operate their community recreation programs.

And since the Board of County Commissioners approved leasing the school to Springdale Prep in May, there has only been an unofficial agreement since the school moved in, parks and rec Director Jeff Degitz told the board during the Positively Carroll segment of their Thursday meeting.

“We met very early on with Johnny Graham from Springdale,” Degitz said, “and Johnny expressed his interest to be a good community partner and make sure we could still continue to use the facilities. We’ve been doing it informally since they’ve been there, but we had a long-term goal to have a joint-use agreement.”

The agreement is similar to what is in place with the Carroll County Public Schools and Carroll Community College, giving parks and rec the first opportunity for community usage for after-school activities.
