Drones have become more than a hobby — the remotely piloted craft may present a burgeoning career field.

That’s how Carroll Community College is approaching it, with a new, 95-hour commercial drone pilot certification course kicking off in late August that will satisfy FAA requirements and prepare drone pilots for work in the industry.

On Tuesday, Aug. 7, the college will offer a free information session for anyone interested in learning more about drones and the drone pilot course being offered late in the month.

In three sessions, at either 10 a.m., 2 p.m. or 7 p.m., instructors will go over the details of the course, scheduling, tuition, types of drones used and other related issues, while also offering a drone flight demonstration, weather permitting.

The lecture portion of the sessions will be hold in Room K115 at Carroll Community College, 1601 Washington Road, Westminster.

While the information session is free, registration is required; call 410-386-8100 or visit www.carrollcc.edu/instantenrollment and search for course number XXB-176 to reserve a spot.

For more information on the drone training course itself, visit www.carrollcc.edu.
