New Year's Eve expected to be cold and windy

Those celebrating New Year's Eve will need to bundle up, with temperatures expected to drop below freezing in the evening, according to the National Weather Service.

Forecasters said the day will start out cool and windy, with a high near 43 and winds blowing west from 13 to 18 mph. Winds could gust at over 30 mph.

The winds will taper off slightly and temperatures will fall to a low of 27, NWS said.

Forecasters were still uncertain about whether a coastal low system would bring snow to the area on Thursday night and Friday morning, but said it remained a possibility. If it does snow, accumulation is expected to be light.
