In Baltimore County, all but one travel lane and both shoulders are closed on US 40 West at MD 43 due to police activity at 8 a.m. on Friday, according to state and local officials.
Baltimore Police said that the closures are due to a shooting investigation and added that the closure has caused heavy delays. The state Department of Transportation reported at 8:31 a.m. that only the westbound left merge lane remained open.
The incident was among many on Friday morning that forced lane closures throughout Baltimore area.
Most of the incidents had been cleared and travel lanes reopened as the morning rush hour came to a close. However, in another Baltimore County roadway incident, emergency roadwork on the Baltimore Washington Parkway North prior to the Harbor Tunnel Thruway closed two of three northbound traffic lanes and the northbound left shoulder at 8:39 a.m., DOT said.
The Maryland Transportation Authority said on Friday morning that the Interstate 695 Curtis Creek Drawbridge is slated for openings at 9 a.m., 1 p.m. and 6 p.m. for U.S. Coast Guard water traffic.
The Maryland Transit Administration reported minor light rail delays at 9:13 a.m. At 6:42 a.m. in Baltimore County, a light rail accident closed service between Warren Road and Beaver Dam road, but normal rail service resumed at 8:05 a.m., MTA said.Copyright © 2015, The Baltimore Sun
