Judy Berman was named senior vice president of sales and marketing for the Baltimore Sun Media Group on Monday, a position that will give her oversight of all advertising sales for the company's print and digital products.

"Given the importance of growing revenue, Judy's marketing and business acumen, knowledge of direct marketing and expertise in leveraging data to increase revenue are among the many reasons she is perfect for the job," CEO and Publisher Timothy E. Ryan said in announcing Berman's expanded role.

Berman, 51, has worked as the company's senior vice president for marketing since 2008, when she arrived from The Chicago Tribune, where she had worked as director of consumer sales and marketing. Before joining the Tribune Co., the Philadelphia native spent 13 years in various marketing, circulation and sales positions at Dow Jones/The Wall Street Journal.

Ryan praised Berman's leadership as key to expanding sales and recruiting new clients. In 2010, he said, she spearheaded the creation of a group that works with the company's advertising sales division to present a marketing vision to advertisers.
