Maryland State Police say 25 troopers are preparing to leave for New Jersey to help in Hurricane Sandy recovery efforts.
The troopers plan to leave in a convoy from the JFK Highway Barrack in Perryville about 4 p.m. Sunday. The convoy is scheduled to travel to Fort Dix in New Jersey, where the troopers will stay during their deployment. State Police say the troopers will assist law enforcement agencies in the area, beginning Monday in Monmouth and Ocean counties.
State police say the troopers, who volunteered for the assignment, have expertise in areas including canine tracking, search and rescue, underwater recovery and marine operations.
Four Baltimore City workers and 23 emergency medical providers from Maryland are also assisting in the recovery effort in New York and New Jersey.Copyright © 2015, The Baltimore Sun
