Ocean City Police say a man who was struck by a vehicle and then ran off was charged Sunday as a "pedestrian unsafely crossing roadway."
Police said that at about 2 a.m., they responded to 49th Street and Coastal Highway for a vehicle crash involving a pedestrian.
Officers talked with the driver of the vehicle and determined that a man had attempted to cross the highway when he was hit. The pedestrian was crossing against the traffic signal, and rolled on to the vehicle's windshield, causing damage to the vehicle, police said in a press release.
He then fled, according to police, who said they talked to the driver and witnesses at the scene.
Police said they initially couldn't find the pedestrian, but later in the morning got a call to the Quality Inn Hotel at 54th Street for a report of an injured male who was bleeding.
There, police said they determined the man was the pedestrian who had been struck. He was identified as Samuel Louis Cribbs, 24, of Murrysville, Pa.
Police said Cribbs appeared to be intoxicated. He was transported to Peninsula Regional Medical Center for treatment. Police said they charged Cribbs with the pedestrian violation. The driver of the vehicle was released.Copyright © 2015, The Baltimore Sun
