State Police to inspect commercial vehicles on D.C.-area roadways

The Maryland State Police will canvass Washington, D.C.,-area roads targeting commercial vehicles for traffic violations during the next three days as part of its Roadcheck 2013 initiative, officials said on Monday.

Police will join with the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance to operate fixed and roving monitors throughout the D.C. area with teams of troopers and inspectors, according to a prepared statement. Beginning Tuesday, police will conduct inspections of passenger-carrying commercial vehicles as well as properly secured cargo for 72 hours, the statement said.

Police will also inspect such items as vehicle equipment, drivers' log books and hazardous materials documentation, the statement said.
