The drawing for the sixth-largest lottery jackpot in U.S. history will be held Wednesday night, with $400 million on the line.
No winner has been picked in the Powerball lottery since a $71.5 million Christmas Day win in Missouri, state lottery officials said. Wednesday's drawing, which will take place at around 11 p.m., has a $400 million jackpot with a $227.8 million cash option.
Very large jackpots have become more common in recent years, with the largest being a Mega Millions jackpot of $656 million split between winners in Maryland, Kansas and Illinois in 2012 and the second-largest being a $648 million Mega Millions jackpot split between winners in California and Georgia in December. The current Powerball jackpot is the sixth-largest in U.S. history.
State lottery officials also said a $50,000 Bonus Match 5 ticket was sold at High's Dairy Store at 910 Philadelphia Road in Joppa this week.
