Fire marshal warns of 'fire challenge' burning game

The state fire marshal is warning the public of a game in which participants pour an accelerant onto their bodies and then set themselves on fire.

No injuries related to the "Fire Challenge" game have been reported in Maryland, but Fire Marshal Brian S. Geraci said he wants to get the word out about it after emergency rooms around the country have seen people with severe burns caused by the activity.

Participants in the "fire challenge" light themselves on fire and then post footage of themselves on social media sites, he said.

"The potential of receiving permanent debilitating injuries or worse from this act should be shared with our youth to help prevent an emergency room visit," Geraci said in a news release.
