A man was killed in a single-vehicle crash that closed down the northbound lanes of Interstate 83 for more than an hour Saturday morning near Ruxton.
Nancy Jones, a communications supervisor at the Maryland State Police Golden Ring Barrack, said a call came in at 8:38 a.m. reporting the crash just south of Ruxton Road in Baltimore County. She said the car went off the roadway and overturned, killing the lone male occupant.
Jones said the man's identity was being withheld pending the notification of relatives. She said all northbound lanes were closed while police waited for the medical examiner to show up, but added that by 10 a.m. a single lane had been reopened.
There were no indications yet of the circumstances leading to the crash, she said. Just before noon, ther State Highway Administration said all lanes had reopened, relieving a traffic backup that had extended as far south as Cold Spring Lane.
