Baltimore beltway crash kills one, injures state employee

A man died and a state employee was injured after the man crashed into a Maryland State Highway Administration vehicle Wednesday night on the shoulder of the Baltimore Beltway in Woodlawn, State Police said.

The man, whose name was not immediately released, had been driving a silver 2004 Ford Freestar minivan on the inner loop just before Interstate 70 about 9:45 p.m., when the vehicle drifted into the right shoulder and struck the back of a 2015 Ford SHA CHART truck that was parked there, police said.

Both the man and the state employee were taken to Northwest Hospital, where the man died and the state employee was treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

The cause of the crash is under investigation, police said.
