City police are investigating two shootings that took place Friday night in West Baltimore, including a homicide in the Mount Holly neighborhood.
Detective Jeremy Silbert, a Baltimore police spokesman, said officers were called to the 2200 block of Elsinore Ave. about 9:10 p.m. and found a man shot multiple times. He was pronounced dead about 30 minutes later, Silbert said.
Officers had been called to the area about an hour earlier for reports of a shooting, but did not find a victim at that time, two law enforcement sources said Friday night. Silbert confirmed that police had initially received a call for shots fired at 7:53 p.m.
Silbert said police were not prepared to release the identity of the victim and did not know a motive. Anyone with information was asked to call 410-396-2100.
There have been 190 people killed in Baltimore this year, and it is possible the city could finish with less than 200 homicides for the first time since 1978.
Earlier Friday, at about 6:10 p.m., police responded to a shooting in the rear of the 2100 block of N. Pulaski St., in the Mondawmin neighborhood, where a 27-year-old man said he had been standing in the block when he heard gunshots and began running.
He was struck once in the leg and once in the chin, and was taken to a local hospital for non-life-threatening injuries, Silbert said.
Anyone with information about that shooting was asked to call Western District detectives at 410-396-2477.Copyright © 2015, The Baltimore Sun
