A Glen Burnie man was sentenced Wednesday to 60 years in prison for his role in a fatal drive-by shooting in Pasadena and an armed robbery that occurred within a week in 2012.

Anne Arundel County Circuit Court Judge Pamela North sentenced Ronald Lee McLeod, 19, to two concurrent life sentences with all but 60 years suspended in the shooting and wounding of Darren Costa and the death of Matthew Morrow on Oct. 13, 2012.

On the night of the shooting, Morrow and Costa were standing in front of Costa's home on Outing Avenue when an SUV passed by, according to the Anne Arundel County State's Attorney's Office. The SUV made a U-turn and drove by a second time, with a passenger firing a handgun at the two men.

Morrow, a Northeast High School and Anne Arundel Community College graduate, was shot in the chest and arm and died. Costa, a mixed martial arts fighter, was shot in the hip and wrist and survived.

Prosecutors said McLeod was identified as the shooter and pleaded guilty in July to first-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder and to the armed robbery of a 65-year-old woman, which prosecutors said was part of a crime spree that culminated with the fatal shooting.

North sentenced McLeod to 20 years in prison for the robbery, which will run concurrent to the other sentences.

Paul James Michael of Pasadena was identified as the driver and pleaded guilty in November to a charge of accessory after the fact. He also pleaded guilty to three counts of reckless endangerment for shooting at another Pasadena home in summer 2012. He was sentenced to 20 years with all but 14 years suspended. Murder charges were dropped against another occupant of the SUV, Daniel Alex Savage of Glen Burnie.

Anne Arundel County State's Attorney Anne Colt Leitess said in a statement that young people need to have the courage to stop their friends "before they take a situation too far. These senseless crimes could have been prevented if someone in that car had the courage to intervene and stop their friend."
