A Pasadena man was charged with stealing bronze grave markers that vanished from grave sites in Glen Haven Memorial Park in Glen Burnie, according to Anne Arundel County police.
Dustin Landon Grogan, 42, of the first block of Wishing Rock Road, is facing a theft charge, police said Tuesday. He was held in lieu of $5,000 bail, according to court records.
Police said they recovered four markers from the cemetery, as well as several related metal pieces, at a home in Glen Burnie, and now are trying to find relatives of the people named on the markers. Some of those people were World War II veterans, police said.
"There is sentimental value to these markers," said police spokesman Justin Mulcahy.
Anyone with information is asked to call Detective Kenneth Edmonds at the Northern District, 410-222-6018.
Police said it's unclear exactly when the markers were removed. About 75 metal urns and other objects were reported taken last summer from cemeteries in the northern part of the county and the investigation is continuing. Metals, because of their value, are often sold for scrap, Mulcahy said.
