A driver on an Anne Arundel County road Wednesday evening lost control of his vehicle and struck a utility pole, leaving him and a female passenger with critical injuries at Maryland Shock Trauma, according to Anne Arundel police.

A statement released by police officials Thursday said that at about 11:07 p.m. Wednesday, county police and fire departments responding to the area of Hammonds Ferry Road and Evelyn Road in Linthicum found a 1998 Chevrolet Corvette against a utility pole.

Police said the driver, Harry Franklin White, 44 of Wilkins Avenue in Baltimore, was traveling north on Hammonds Ferry Road when he failed to negotiate a curve, lost control of the car and traveled off the road and through a yard, ultimately striking a utility pole.

The front-seat passenger of the vehicle, Grace Anderson, 32, of Wilkens Avenue in Baltimore, was discovered unresponsive by county fire paramedics, the statement said.

Both were taken to Shock Trauma, and both were listed in critical condition as of Thursday. Though the investigation is ongoing, police said excessive speed and reckless driving may have contributed to the crash.
