Baltimore County police have released the identity of the man who died Sunday night, Nov. 25, after being shot outside a Towson apartment complex.
Police identified the man as Alsawab Sawab, 27. He lived in the apartment where the shooting occurred in the 7000 block of Lachlan Circle, police said.
No arrests have been made, and there was no information available about potential suspects.
Police spokeswoman Cpl. Cathy Batton had reported Sunday evening that fire and police units were dispatched to the Fairways complex, off Lachlan Circle, at 6:55 p.m. after a 911 caller reported a man had been shot outside his home.
When officers arrived, they found the man suffering multiple gunshot wounds.
He was transported to Sinai Hospital as a "priority one patient," Batton said, meaning his injuries were life threatening.
He succumbed to his injuries later in the night.
On Monday morning, just below the first-floor landing where a police officer said the crime scene existed, what appeared to be blood could be seen on walls, and around the doorknob of one of four basement apartments in an end unit on Lachlan Circle.
Just before noon, two women who identified themselves as family members of the man who was shot briefly entered the apartment to collect some belongings. The women declined to comment.
Francesca Singleton, a 20-year-old Towson University student who has lived in the Fairways since May, called the complex "relatively safe" and said she never had any qualms being outside or walking her dog at night.
While a fair Number of residents in the complex are her Towson University peers, she said a majority of the residents are families or young couples, and instances of violence are rare.
"It's usually really safe around here," she said.
Likewise, 22-year-old Towson University student Clay Collins said he was surprised to read about the shooting on his way home from Thanksgiving break last night.
"I guess if you live anywhere around here, you have to be alert of that stuff, but for the most part I felt safe," said Collins, who lives one unit over from the location of the shooting.Copyright © 2014, The Baltimore Sun
