A weeklong celebration of Pot Spring Elementary's 50th anniversary concluded Saturday with a school-wide open house and tree planting, capping a week of spirit days a book fair and sock hop at the Timonium school.
The week was highlighted by Friday's sock hop and Saturday's open house and dedication ceremony. The 1950s-themed sock hop brought the school community together and offered them a glimpse of the culture enjoyed by the school's first generation.
On Saturday, decades worth of school history and memorabilia were on display at the open house, which was followed by a ceremony to mark the occasion.
State legislators and past principals shared remarks at the ceremony, which preceded the dedication of an anniversary mural painted by the school's students.
After the ceremony, the second-generation families at Pot Spring planted a commemorative tree on the school's grounds.
