December is always a busy month for bazaars and festivals, and two of our Lutherville churches have events scheduled for our shopping enjoyment.
St. John's United Methodist Church, on West Seminary Avenue in Historic Lutherville, will host its annual Christmas Bazaar on Saturday, Dec. 1, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The bazaar features greens, handmade boutique items, jewelry, unique gifts and a nearly new table.
The annual Cookie Bazaar at St. Paul's Lutheran Church is the following Saturday, Dec. 8, from 10 a.m. to noon — or until the cookies are gone. Visitors can stop by the church's Spangler Hall on Kurtz Avenue in Historic Lutherville, and choose from an array of homemade cookies for holiday eating and gifting.
Fill a box of cookies that you select yourself for $10. Proceeds will be used to help maintain the church's historic buildings.
There will be a completely new 1950s-era Holiday Train Garden at the Fire Museum of Maryland this season. Opening day is this Saturday, Nov. 24, for another year of entertainment for young and old. Hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m, with free photos with Santa available from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
New this year are special evenings for enjoying the train garden from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Dec. 18 to 21. The cost for these events will be $2 adults and $1 children (other exhibits will be closed during these events).
The entire museum will be open Saturdays in December, as well as Dec. 27-29, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. For more information visit the museum's website at http://www.firemuseummd .org or call 410-321-7500.
Enjoy a brunch with Santa on Saturday, Dec. 1, from 10 a.m. to noon at Ridgely Middle School. Youngsters can take part in face painting and crafts and get their picture taken with Santa. The event is sponsored by the Lutherville-Timonium Recreation Council. Refreshments will be from Chick-Fil-A.
Cost is $5 and pre-registration is required, with a Nov. 23 deadline. Go to the LTRC website for information and to register. The inclement weather date is Dec. 15.
