M&D Lacrosse Club wins girls league championships at four levels

The Maryland and District of Columbia Lacrosse Club Lazers finished with a clean sweep of all of the brackets in the National Premier Youth Girls Lacrosse League spring season.

In the 2017 bracket, it was a hard-fought game between Hero's and M&D. Hero's was up 7-6 before the Lazers went on a 6-0 run to secure the victory. M&D goalie Jen Schaaf came up with some huge saves in the second half. Lutherville residents Riley Thacker and Margaret Root excelled for the Lazers.

Goalie Julia Cooper led the Lazers in a tight game to finish the season undefeated in the 2018 bracket. Leading scorer Sara Jane Ayer and Anna Robinson, Julia Hoffman and Anna Callahan had big games for M&D.

In the 2019 bracket, the Lazers were deadlocked with Hero's, 5-5, at halftime, before winning eight draws in a row in a second half run and finished with 16 of the game's 18 draw controls. Emma Schettig won 10 of the draws and scored the game winning goal.  Blair Pearre added four draw controls and three goal. Jenna Snead had a stellar game in goal, recording six saves. Sammy Thacker, Lauren Cohen and Natalie Welch added two goals each for M&D.

Eloise Clevinger and Demma Hall led the Lazers back from a 5-1 deficit in the 2020 bracket, with a totaling seven goals and three assists to close the season with a 10-0 record for a team anchored by defenders Ellie Eisner, Summer Faby, Claire Simonds and goalie Julia Hammerschlag. Midfielders Blake Cunneen, Keeley McNamar and Isabella Marsh also contributed to the Lazers' success.
