Towson Library became a three-ring circus of sorts Thursday night for a special sign-up event for the Baltimore County Public Library's Summer Reading Club.
Sponsored by the Friends of the Towson Library, all area elementary school students were invited to the event, which featured circus-type performances such as a balancing act by Charm City Movement Arts members, jugglers and gymnasts.
While learning about this summer's reading program themed "Dig Into Reading" and geared toward elementary school-age and younger children, attendees got a chance to juggle, have their faces painted and talk to the performers.
The theme for middle school ages and up is "Beneath the Surface." The overall theme, library officials said in a release, is underground, which encompasses all kinds of ideas such as caves, fossils, hidden treasure, time capsules, gardening, rocks and the subway.
The Summer Reading Club begins Monday, June 17. For details or to pre-register, go to http://www.bcpl.info/summerreading. Participants can also register at local library branches. Club materials will be available for pick-up at branches beginning June 17.Copyright © 2015, The Baltimore Sun
