Did you know that Baltimore County code allows citizens to take down nuisance signs (street spam, vertical trash, whatever you'd like to call it) in the public right-of-way? It's true, and it's why you rarely see illegal signs in Catonsville. We take care of it, and our town looks great as a result. Make sure you don't wander onto private property though! Most of the junk car towers, pyramid scheme pushers, and we buy houses wannabes don't even bother putting their signs up here any more because they know they'll all get taken down. Lionel Van Dommeln with the county code enforcement office is very supportive of the effort to keep these signs from becoming a problem, but you gotta be willing to help yourselves as well. Do your part and he'll do his too. Take down license plates of people you see putting them up. Take photos of illegal signs and send to paienforce@baltimorecountymd.gov. But the best way to deter them is to take them down as soon as they go up. All the illegal campaign signs in our town on street corners and in the median strips (question 4, 5, 6, 7, etc.) never saw the light of day. They were all gone by morning - like it never happened!
