'House of Cards' cast, crew descends on Towson

In recent years, downtown Baltimore has been showcased on several television shows, most notably HBO’s “The Wire” and “Veep.”

But this week, Towson is getting its shot at small-screen glory as the cast and crew of the Netflix drama “House of Cards” films at  Baltimore County’s historic courthouse.

The political drama, which stars Kevin Spacey, is filming its second season, and is utilizing the second floor of the courthouse this week, county officials said.

The sets include the council’s chambers, library, and offices — though on Wednesday, the show’s cast and crew replaced that floor’s typical employees.

Outside the courthouse, trucks and trailers lined both Pennsylvania and Chesapeake Avenues as the lunchtime crowd looked curiously toward the building.

Production lights were set up outside the courthouse in Patriot Plaza, though otherwise, the afternoon brought little outside the regular bustle of downtown Towson.

As filming continued inside, security guards stood sentry outside the cast's trailers while crew members sat idly with their legs dangling off the back of production trucks.

This story will be updated.
