Fifth District County Councilman David Marks announced last week that he will support the downzoning of 3.28 acres on Loch Raven Boulevard near Goucher Boulevard.
"In making this decision, I am respecting the wishes of the Glendale-Glenmont Community Association to keep some forested land at Goucher and Loch Raven Boulevard," Marks said in a statement.
"This is already a densely-populated corridor, with thousands of apartments and ample office space," he said. "While one of the smaller zoning issues in acreage, this issue is very important to the Glendale-Glenmont community."
The issue of the tract's zoning was raised by the Glendale-Glenmont Community Association during the county's quadrennial Comprehensive Zoning Map Process. The association had asked that the land be rezoned from allowing a mix of office and residential uses — OR 1, primarily — to DR 1, which allows for one house per acre.
The County Council is currently holding public hearings on each council district's CZMP issues, and will adopt the final recommendations on Tuesday, Aug. 28.
