Apple a day promotes healthy eating at West Towson

West Towson Elementary School recently extended the celebration of Homegrown School Lunch Week in Baltimore County by providing local apples, along with some apple recipes, to students and teachers.

Statewide, the focus on eating local produce was held Sept. 17-21 and called on school systems to feature local produce in their school lunch menus.

At West Towson on Sept. 28, the school's Wellness Committee had apples available from Colora Orchard in Cecil County.

The apples, along with apple-related recipes and facts, were also designed to support West Towson's goals for Maryland Green School certification, as well as the school's participation in the Alliance for a Healthier Generation's Healthy Schools program.
