Cockeysville distillery collapse closes portion of York Road

A portion of York Road in Cockeysville could be closed until rush hour Wednesday morning after a portion of the old distillery building in the 10900 block of York Road collapsed Tuesday morning.

Laura Rakowski, a spokeswoman for the Maryland State Highway Administration, said debris from the collapsed wall was cleared from the road, but that the two northbound lanes would remain closed due to the threat of further collapse in the vacant warehouse.

Baltimore County emergency spokeswoman Elise Armacost said a section three-story tall, 100-foot long section of the building collapse at 9:57 a.m. Tuesday, and that officials believe the storm caused the accident.

Rakowski said drivers should prepare alternate routes for their morning commutes, with options including Shawan Road, Warren Road, and I-83.
