Chipotle Mexican Grill is helping the Towson Chamber of Commerce celebrate National Farmers Market Week at its weekly market on Allegheny Avenue in Towson by distributing 500 $10 food tokens to be used at Thursday's market.
Nancy Hafford, executive director of the Towson Chamber of Commerce, said the wooden tokens would be given out to the first 500 customers at the Chipotle booth Thursday morning. Customers can use the tokens at one booth, and no change can be given.
Hafford said she was contacted by Chipotle two months ago, and that the tokens are just one of the ways they've pledged to help the chamber's weekly farmers market.
During Thursday's market, flyers will be distributed to customers that, when shown at the Chipotle in Towson Place shopping center at 801 Goucher Boulevard between 12 p.m. and 5 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 15, will contribute to a fundraiser for the Towson Farmers Market.
Fifty-percent of the proceeds from any person that shows the flier during that period will be donated to the farmers market.
The US Department of Agriculture is marking National Farmers Market from Aug. 4-10 to celebrate the nationwide growth of farmers markets. According to a press release from the USDA, 8,144 farmers markets are listed in the department's directory, an increase of around 5,000 in the last five years.
The Towson Farmers Market, which is located on Allegheny Avenue between York Road and Washington Avenue, runs from 10:45 a.m. to 3 p.m. every Thursday until Thanksgiving.
