Sprinkler system quells Towson apartment fire

A one-alarm apartment fire in an off-campus apartment building Thursday morning near Towson University was accidental and quickly brought under control, Baltimore County Fire spokeswoman Elise Armacost said.

Officials said the fire began at around 8:35 a.m. in a first-floor bedroom of an apartment at 402 Campus View Drive in Towson, and the resident was in the shower when she heard the smoke alarm.

The resident left the room when she saw smoke. Everyone in the building made it out safely, Armacost said.

Armacost said the fire was controlled by the privately-owned building's sprinkler system, and damage was limited to the bedroom where the fire started.
