7 injured in deck collapse at Towson apartment complex

Seven people were injured Monday evening — including one with possible life-threatening wounds — when the deck of a second-story Towson apartment collapsed and fell about eight feet.

Emergency responders were dispatched to the apartment on Kenlawn Court about 6:18 p.m., police said. One person was transported to the University of Maryland Medical Center's Shock Trauma Unit. The other six, who suffered from lesser injuries, were being treated at area hospitals.

The victims were between the ages of 19 and 26, authorities say. Five are students at Towson university.

A witness told investigators that between four and six people were on the deck when it collapsed, police said. Between 100 and 150 people were in the area when officers arrived.

A spokesman for the Baltimore County Fire Department said it's not known what caused the deck to collapse. The investigation is continuing. A county code inspector will check the building today, county officials said.
