Local swimmers shine at Straehle Invitational swim meet

Five local teams competed at the Central Maryland Swim League Straehle Invitational Championship Swim Meet at Carroll Aquatics Swim Club at Four Seasons on July 26 and the Meadowbrook Tomatoes emerged with the highest combined point total.

Meadowbrook amassed 340 points as the first-place girls racked up 247 points.

Roland Run was second (210) as the boys were on top with 117.50 points.

Padonia Park was fourth overall with 193 points and Springlake (25th) and Dulaney (33th) also competed.

Dulaney’s Lily Mead set three meet records in the 13-14 girls age group.

Mead set the new records in the 50-meter backstroke (30.45), 50-meter butterfly (30.19) and 50-meter breaststroke (34.11).

Roland Run’s Daniel Branon set a meet record in the 25 fly (16.37) in the 8-and-under boys group.

Padonia Park’s Maggie Belbot was a record setter in the 11-12 girls age group, clocking 28.68 in the 50 fly.

The Meadowbrook girls 11-12 freestyle relay team of Alexandra Harner, Meghan Benda, Gabriella Alaish and Penny Celtnieks set a meet record with a time of 1:57.68.

8-and-under girls: Hannah Matteini 1st breast.

9-10 girls: Mary Marquez 2nd individual medley, 3rd back, 4th breast; Margot Thomas 1st breast; Roison Casey 2nd breast, 5th free.

9-10 boys: Liam McQuaid 3rd IM, 5th fly.

11-12 girls: Alexandra Harner 1st free, 2nd IM; Penny Celtnieks 2nd free, 3rd breast, 4th back; Gabriella Alaish 3rd back, 4th IM, 5th fly; Tess Lankford 4th breast.

11-12 boys: Teddy McQuaid 1st back; Peter Shkolnik 5th fly.

13-14 girls: Kacey McKenna 1st IM, 2nd back, 5th fly; Caroline Benda 2nd IM, 4th free.

13-14 boys: Ronan Nealis 3rd back.

9-10 girls free relay: Margot Thomas, Sophie Bergles, Julia Kurtzatowski and Mary Marquez 1st.

9-10 boys free relay: Dylan Mellendick, Harrison Alaish, Jared Goldstein and Liam McQuaid 4th.

11-12 girls free relay: Alexandra Harner, Meghan Benda, Gabriella Alaish and Penny Celtnieks 1st.

11-12 boys free relay: Paul Shkolnik, TJ Matteini, Teddy McQuaid and Peter Shkolnik 1st.
