Girl, 17, made up story about Reisterstown shooting

Law Enforcement

A 17-year-old girl who reported being shot Thursday in a robbery in Reisterstown made the story up, Baltimore County police said Friday.

The teen was shot in the head, and remains in serious condition with non-life-threatening injuries. But her account of the shooting was not accurate, police now say. She told police on Thursday that she had been shot in a robbery of her cell phone, but police have determined she was accidentally struck during a fight with a male friend over a handgun, which occurred in the basement of a home in the 100 block of Danbury Road.

Police have charged 19-year-old Linwood Omar Smith of the 100 block of Danbury Road in the incident.

The girl made up the story to protect Smith, police said.
