Prettyboy Reservoir drowning victim identified

Baltimore County police Sunday identified 30-year-old Patrick McTague of Alexandria, Va. as the man who disappeared Friday evening in Prettyboy Reservoir and presumably drowned. While police said they had notified his next of kin, they have not yet recovered the victim's body.

While searchers were monitoring the waters around the Prettyboy Dam for McTague's body, conditions around the dam were considered too dangerous for divers, police said.

On Friday, rescue units searched the waters for a man who was seen "hanging over the dam" and falling into the reservoir shortly before 7 p.m., police said. The fire department's Swift Water Rescue Team and the Watershed police searched until darkness, but were unable to locate the man. Rescuers found a hat and a tennis shoe in the area, as well as a vehicle with Virginia tags parked nearby, police said. The searched was resumed on Saturday.

Prettyboy Reservoir is owned and managed by the Baltimore City Department of Public Works. Visitors can boat and fish in parts of the reservoir but no swimming is allowed. Earlier this month, two kayakers were injured after falling 200 feet over the face of the dam and were charged with trespassing.
