Speed and alcohol likely contributed to a crash in Sparks on Thursday night that killed two people and left one woman in critical condition Friday, Baltimore County police said.
The two killed were identified Friday as Charles Edward Wagner, 85, and Jeannine Shirley Wagner, 84, both of the 900 block of Beaverbank Circle in Towson.
A passenger in the same vehicle, identified as Mary Antoinette Warner, 79, of the 12300 block of Rosslare Ridge Road in the Lutherville-Timonium area, was flown to Maryland Shock Trauma Center. She remained in critical condition there Friday, police said.
Baltimore County police cited Eric James Stewart, 22, of the 600 block of Quaker Bottom Road and Brandon Thomas Walsh, 23, of the 14600 block of Thornton Mill Road for driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol. Investigators determined that Stewart was at fault in the crash.
Police said shortly after 10 p.m. Thursday, Stewart was driving his Hyundai Sonata north on York Road, near Thornton Mill Road, crossed the center line and struck a Hyundai Tucson carrying the Wagners and Warner. The Sonata then collided with Walsh's Dodge Dart also traveling north on York Road, police said.
Charles Wagner was driving the Tucson and Jeannine Wagner was in a rear passenger seat.
Stewart was also taken to Shock Trauma for non-life-threatening injuries, police said, and Walsh was not injured.
