Kudos to Marie Cheng, a straight-A fifth-grader at Warren Elementary School who was recently honored as Student of the Month by the Optimist Club of Timonium. Marie is a very busy young lady who enjoys a variety of activities. She takes piano and classical ballet at Peabody Preparatory. In fact, she began her dance instruction at age 4. She enjoys performing and has participated in such classical ballets as "Sleeping Beauty" and "Cinderella." In addition, she plays the flute. She enjoys many forms of music, but Marie's mother reports that her very first love is animals. For starters, she has a Labrador retriever named Luke and a rescue cat named Leia., who gets along famously with Luke. So it's no surprise that she has been active in helping garner donations for the Humane Society. She even made collection baskets for food, blankets and other supplies that are donated. Marie also enjoys being one of the morning announcers at Warren Elementary each day. Congratulations to Marie and her proud parents, Yanshu Wang and Jie Cheng.
There's always lots of news from Boy Scout Troop 328. Troop liaison Donna Hill reports that frigid conditions greeted the Scouts when they spent a weekend at Camp Rodney in Cecil County the last weekend in January. Although they were housed in a lodge, poor insulation necessitated that they spend a good bit of the weekend chopping wood! The birds they were hoping to spot for a merit badge had apparently flown south for the winter, but the boys rose to the occasion and still enjoyed themselves. Later this month, a group of 20 Scouts and leaders will head for Camp Rock Enon in Virginia, where they look forward to an afternoon of snow tubing. Camp Rock Enon has been their camp destination during for the last two years. Plans are also in place for the 2013 Summer Camp at Bayport, Va., near the Rappahannock River, in later July. The troop's new website, built by Debbie Hontz, can be found at http://www.troop328timonium.com. Check it out!
