Two people were injured Saturday afternoon as they pushed a burning boat away from other vessels at an Essex yacht club, officials said.
The boat – a 30- to 35-foot cabin cruiser-style powerboat – caught fire near a fuel pier at the Baltimore Yacht Club on 800 Baltimore Yacht Club Road, said Capt. Rich Schenning, a spokesman for the Baltimore County Fire Department.
Some people on the dock tried to push the boat out into the water to prevent other boats from catching on fire, Schenning said.
Two people, however, were taken to Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center's burn unit to be treated for second-degree burns.
Fireboats were brought in to put out the fire. A hazmat team also responded in the event of any fuel or oil spills resulting from the fire, Schenning said.Copyright © 2014, The Baltimore Sun
