A man was seriously injured after he was hit by a piece of steel at Sparrows Point on Friday, Baltimore County police said.
The man was flown to Maryland Shock Trauma by state police helicopter after fire and EMS personnel were called to 1430 Sparrows Point Blvd. at 1:58 p.m., a police and fire spokesman said Monday.
A spokeswoman with the Maryland Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulation said the Maryland Occupational Safety and Health is investigating. The agency is also investigating when a crew of nine asbestos-removal workers were injured when the former cold mill building at the former steel mill collapsed on them in May.
The workers injured in May were employed by demolition contractor MCM Management Corp. A MCM official said the man injured Friday was not one of their employees.
Hilco Global is in the process of clearing the property and liquidating the former plant, which closed in 2012.
