A community input meeting on the redevelopment of the North Point Government Center in Dundalk is scheduled for Thursday evening.
The meeting will be held 5:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Dundalk High School. Developers from Vanguard plan to present the company's proposal for revamping the site, which is now used for a variety of community activities. The firm wants to build a development called Merritt Pavilion, which would include restaurants, retail and offices. It also plans to construct a new recreational and arts facility, and to improve the ball fields.
Some community members have criticized the plan, forming a group called Dundalk United to oppose the proposal. Critics say the redevelopment will result in the loss of green space and contend that the area does not need new retail, pointing to vacant storefronts near the center.
The site was one of three public properties that Baltimore County officials sold last year for private development. Vanguard bid about $2.1 million for 15 acres of the 27-acre site.
